If you are on Facebook please go to our new page and "like" us. Facebook is a huge learning curve for us
but we recognise that it is an excellent way of getting messages across to large numbers of people quickly.
Please spread the word to all your dog owning friends and also encourage them to join up on our website: www.dogfriends.co.nz/home.html
so that they receive our newsletters. When they receive our confirmation email all they need to do to
complete the sign up process is to click on the link in the email to confirm that they want to join us.
Many thanks in anticipation of lots of new join ups !
2. FLIER FOR DISTRIBUTION

3. NEW DRAFT AUCKLAND DOG POLICY
The new Auckland Dog Policy is not now due out until December but Local Boards are currently involved in workshops
regarding content of the draft policy. Please communicate with your Local Board regarding your area.
Some important things to request:
- default to "off leash to be included in the new Auckland policy" (this is already the case in Rodney, it is simple
and works well)
- prohibited times for dogs on popular beaches to be 10 am to 6 pm from 01 November to last day of February
- if you already have 24/7 access to certain less popular beaches ask to keep these
- let your Local Board know of any other concerns or requests you have for your local area
4. THIS SUMMER'S RESTRICTIONS FOR DOGS ON BEACHES
The restricted period for dogs on Rodney beaches begins on Sunday 01 October this year. All other
Councils have different restricted periods, many starting earlier than this and others starting before Labour Weekend, so
please check the signs at your local beaches. Hopefully everything will be consistent and fair for dog owners across the
region from 2012 ! Please help us to push for the dates and times in point 3 above as a minimum.
5. MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM A MEMBER
"As dog walkers we are continually in the eye of the non-dog friendly section of the community and we need to be on our
best behaviour. I have noticed over past months an increase in dog faeces on the beaches. When the controversy over dogs
on beaches was high the problem was pretty much under control but on every walk for the past few weeks I have picked up after
other peoples dogs! All it takes is one disgruntled person to notice this sort of thing and we will all suffer for it.
We all need a bit of a reminder if we want the best access to beaches possible."
Soooo PLEASE keep a close eye on your dogs wherever you walk them and ensure you
always pick up. Please also give a polite, gentle reminder to others if necessary.
Bye for now!
